2011, the dysfunctional relationship that I couldn’t get out of…

Until 2012 came along. So far this year is off to a bang.

But, despite it being the lowest grossing year of my entire adult life, 2011 wasn’t ALL bad.

Here’s a quick rundown of things that I discovered, experienced and liked in 2011:

• Childish Gambino!

• Working with two of my favorite directors this year:

David Fincher

and Christopher Nolan

• Living in the Hollywood Hills.

• Beautiful weather.

• Teaming up with Ariescope for my first writing credit ever on the web pilot for Sexy Nightmare Slayers. Great people, great experience.

• That time a mini van got hit so hard it rolled up into the air and onto my truck’s hood.

• Starting Back to One Films and producing my own comedy shorts!

• San Diego Comic Con!

• The ladies of San Diego Comic Con

• Meeting Walt Simonson!

• Thanksgiving. (i.e. Drinking beers around a campfire by my uncle’s lake with a good majority of my family.)

• Van Jones (It’s a 10 minute clip. Don’t watch it all, folks. Start at 4:30 in)

• Hearing the Hollywood Bowl from my window

• Getting to work, period. Especially on Parks & Recreation

• Community and Happy Endings. Two shows that I don’t work on that you still need to watch. Hulu and Netflix are your friends. And so are these two shows.

• Game of Thrones

• Homeland

• Pretty much anything on Adult Swim.

• Psych.

• Getting a new bed that lets me sleep and doesn’t hurt me even though it says it loves me

• Eating my first hard boiled egg

• Seeing Dog, the Bounty Hunter walking around shopping on Melrose

• Seeing Jesus walking around in Hollywood. Yeah, think about THAT.

• Rise of the Planet of the Apes

• The Adjustment Bureau

• Crazy Stupid Love

• The Descendants

• Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol in IMAX

• Drive

Young Adult

• Doug Jones

• Reminiscing about the Facebook format from 2 years ago

• The death of Osama Bin Laden

• This poor teased dog video

• Golden Apple Comics

• The (almost) resurgence of Dolph Lundgren

• Stealing from my roommate’s DC Comics comp box for the first half of the year.

• My grumpy (sigh… and awesome) roommate. He didn’t kick me out this year.

• Frederick, my roommate’s dog, whom I will steal whenever I become an adult and can afford my own place.

• Eating sushi. More, please!

• Batman: Arkham City

• Uncharted 3

• Neil DeGrasse Tyson

• Joe the Barbarian

• Captain America & Bucky: The Life Story of Bucky Barnes

• Mark Waid’s run on Daredevil

• Twitter > Facebook

• All of the friends I got to see, wherever and whenever. More, please!

• This photo:

• This .gif:

• Sabor Y Cultura

• The return of Archer

• Blair Butler’s Heart

• Christmastime in Los Angeles

• This kid, this kid and this kid and being reminded that intelligent, rational people still exist. And amazingly, but not surprisingly, they’re all kids. Not greedy old, closeted self-loathers.

• Dr. Cornel West

•

and lastly…

• Shaving my head!

• For Halloween!!

Thanks 2011. We had some good times but in the end… you just didn’t put out enough.

Here’s to 2012!!!

WHY DIDN’T I WATCH DONALD GLOVER’S STAND UP SPECIAL LAST NIGHT

OH WAIT I DID!! AND IT WAS AWESOME!

This is an annoyingly edited video but a fun watch no less. Please note the word “imcapable”. Sigh.

Oh, also… spoilers. Like that needs to be said…

And here’s how Walt pulled that crazy thing off on last night’s ep… Come on people, it’s been almost 24 hours, if you haven’t watched it yet I don’t know what to say.

I’m moving to Russia.

Today I worked downtown on a big secret movie. The day involved a big explosion that leads into the 3rd street tunnel. My job was to make sure the inside of the tunnel was clear, which I did.
My peer, Drew, and I stood the distance that the FX guys told us to, hidden behind their tow trucks, and when it came time for the explosion, it felt a little like this artist’s reenactment.
First, there was no “Fire in the hole” and no countdown. There was a “Rolling” and before I could even repeat that, BOOM!!!! Drew and I felt a massive heatwave and I looked up to see a pretty cool fireball coming towards me as well as a few picture cars that were rigged. Luckily, thanks to my prayer to Popeye I’m sure, no flames or cars invaded my personal space and I was able to live another day.
Pretty much the craziest thing I’ve ever experienced. It was awesome!
